At some point, the world's 1,400 gene banks in more than 100 different countries will send their seed boxes here. The first sensitive cargoes have travelled from 21 gene banks around the world. From here, they are transported to the seed vault, their final destination. The sealed seed boxes are packed into a container and taken on one last journey with strict safety precautions. The first cargo planes loaded with seeds are landing at Svalbard Airport. This is where four and a half million seed samples from all over the world are to be stored.
